Line and Color Post: About Russell Stulter

Posted by DigitalAlan on Oct 10, 2006 in Drawing, Pencil, Sketching

Line And Color – Posted an interesting article about where I got inspired to start drawing.

I really fell in love with the style of Russell Stulter and his use of Fountain Pens and adding a color wash to the images to really bring them to life. (see below)
As one of the comments states just sketching with watercolor you don’t have the control and precision to accomplish what Russell accomplishes when he uses both Pen and a waterbrush to give a wash of watercolor over the completed drawing. I feel this gives so much more depth and feeling to the drawing.

Make sure to check out Russell’s Site to see his sketchbook. And check out the Forum where you can join in share your drawing and sketches and talk about art in general, Learn a few new techniques or talk about new tools to use.

Below is a sample of what you can find in the sketchbooks of Russell Stulter.

Scavenger Hunt #12: Sketch #2 – Container for Sugar

Posted by DigitalAlan on Oct 10, 2006 in Uncategorized

Well, I don’t have a normal container for sugar – But as I was getting my coffee this morning – I grabbed a few sugar containers and threw them on my desk – and the lightbulb almost hit me in the head – Ah Ha – Here is my container for sugar – Sugar Packages – I use Splenda Sugar for my Coffee and So here is my Sketch of the packs I threw on my desk.

This was drawing with my Lamy Safari – Extra Fine Fountain Pen with Noodlers Black Ink and then I did a light wash of colors over the image after the ink dried. I believe I went a tad heavy on the color – I wanted it much lighter. Oh well – Learn from your mistakes right?

WetCanvas Scavenger Hunt #13

Posted by DigitalAlan on Oct 9, 2006 in Drawing, Pencil, Sketching

Sketch #1: A Pipe -

Even though I think they might have ment a plumbing pipe – This will fill the subject. I used a Pilot Precise V5 Pen with Black Ink to do the outline and I then used the PrismaColor to add the color to this image. I have had the colors for about 1 year and have not used them much – I mostly have done just blackand white. By creating sketches with the wetbrush – I noticed the color just added so much to the image.
